The Children's Choral Festival of World Music began with an
emphasis in
African American Music in 2001 when the Columbus Children's Choir
invited talented children from the Columbus Public Schools to join with
them to perform in a series of three concerts around the city and pay tribute
to the music of African American Composers. Rollo Dilworth of Chicago
was the guest clinician and conductor for the event.
This years Children1s Choral Festival of World Music will feature music
of the Latino and Hispanic cultures. Guest conductor will be Fernando
Malvar-Ruiz, a native of Spain , and the Artistic Director of the American
Boychoir. Elementary Music teachers in the Columbus City Schools will
select 10 of their outstanding 5th grade students to be a part of the Festival
Choir. Singers will attend interest sessions on the Latino and Hispanic
cultures in the morning, rehearse in the Festival Choir in the afternoon,
and present a concert for the public at 4 pm .
We are grateful to the Nathan Cummings Foundation, Honda, Cardinal
Health, National City , and Nationwide for their support of this festival; to
the Columbus Public Schools for sending us talented singers; and to our
workshop leaders, guest conductors, and composers.
